With the completion of the final weld of the prefabricated pipeline crossing the Fengle River, the Phase 5 section of the West-East Gas Pipeline Project (Tulufan to Zhongwei) being constructed by Jiangsu Oil Construction Company has achieved the completion of main welding. Since the ignition and welding started on August 16, 2022, the project department has overcome difficulties such as the impact of the epidemic, material supply disruptions, steep slope construction, and multiple crossing points, continuously accelerating the construction progress. As of June 8, this section has welded a total of 9746 welds, with a first-pass welding qualification rate of 98.12%.

The length of the Fifth Section of the Western Line 4 is 133.7 kilometers, with a diameter of 1219 millimeters. It passes through 35 towns and townships in Jiayuguan City and Suzhou District, which are under the jurisdiction of Jiuquan City, Gansu Province. After the completion of the project, it will further optimize the energy structure in the eastern and western regions of China, construct a new pattern of the natural gas pipeline network with "five vertical and five horizontal lines," and play an important role in promoting the construction of a "unified national network.

In the 133-kilometer line of the Fifth Section of the project, there are 75.8 kilometers through deserts, 52.1 kilometers through plains, and 5.8 kilometers through deserts. The construction area where the Fifth Section of the Western Line 4 (Tulufan to Zhongwei) is located has frequent crossings with three in-service pipelines: Xiqi East Transmission, Second Line, and Third Line, which have posed considerable difficulties for welding construction. The project department has optimized the route, used cold bending instead of heating, installed pipes through trenchless methods, and used horizontal pipe assembly for welding, reducing the impact on automatic welding and effectively reducing construction difficulties and improving the continuity of automatic welding construction. In the construction of the Fifth Section of the Western Line 4 of the Xiqi East Transmission natural gas pipeline project, the project department has used the Xionggu Pipeline Automatic Welding Machine for welding operations, playing an important role in improving construction efficiency and welding quality.
